Miracle Toy! January 6, 2009 C. M. Wrenne (Nashville, TN) If you have a fussy baby who fights sleep, do yourself a favor and buy this toy. I guarantee you won't regret it. It soothes fussy babies when nothing else seems help. The rotating disk seems to have an almost hypnotic effect and the music has a volume control knob. All in all, I think it is the best toy I have bought for my grandson (and I've bought lots!)
Great toy if/when it works January 1, 2009 John (Chicago) The disk didn't spin on the high speed setting when the toy arrived. I called the company and left a message about it and no call back a week later. After 5 days the disk failed to spin at any speed so now it's totally useless. The only plus is that while it worked our baby loved it. I'll go through the hassle of sending this one back to Amazon and give it one more try. The Yookidoo company needs to work on their customer sevice in my opinion.
Wonderfully entertaining October 8, 2008 Kate's mom I immediately fell in love with this in the store. It looked so interesting and I loved that it had multiple functions. For the past two months we have been using it as a "soother" in our four month old's crib. She is transfixed by it and squeals with delight when I turn it on, so it is more stimulating than soothing. I can't imagine my daughter falling asleep to something she finds so fascinating and exciting. I am also looking forward to letting her play with the other toys on the base when she is able to sit up unassisted. The music is catchy and cute and the discs seem sturdy. The only con is that the motor whirs a bit louder than I would like. My baby doesn't mind and my husband doesn't notice, so perhaps I am just overly sensitive. Overall, an awesome toy that I can see holding my daughter's interest for at least a year, maybe two, which is pretty long lived for a baby toy.
Not worth the price, perhaps. July 20, 2008 K. Ainslie We bought this for my son when he was 3 months old. He had little interest in it at that age. We put it in his crib and he seems to be more hypnotized by it then liking it. The first couple times he liked it and then he would stare at it and start crying. It reminded me too much of the scene from Clockwork Orange to be comforting. Now my son is 7 months and he will sit on the couch and play with the base toys and balls that I put in the kaleidoscope base. Basically the base has two balls you can take out that are clear and have graphics inside. I put these balls inside the rotating base, they rotate and my son takes them out. I put them back in, and repeat. This lasts for about 10 minutes until he loses interest. He also sometimes plays with one of the spinning toys on the base.
There is the kaleidoscope aspect that can attach to your crib, but there is also a base that it fits into that has toys around it. There is a spinning rattle type toy, bead moving toy, a sweeky push down toy and a clicking turning toy. At age 7 months, he is only able to play with the rattle and bead moving toy. The other ones are too hard or difficult to move.
As far as construction, the toy seems to be cheaply made. Noting has fallen off, but the disks frequently don't play or only play at the high speed (which is crazy fast). Some of the disks are too short and it is definitely not something that soothes the baby to sleep.
Fun, unusual toy for babies of all ages! May 30, 2008 E. Nelson (Independence, MO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am surprised there are no reviews for this toy yet, my 8 month old ADORES it. It is very unusual, well designed, and hard to describe! The toy comes with 4 musical "disks", two play soft lullaby musical and two play more updeat tunes. There are also many other features around the base of the toy that would appeal to babies of different ages- levers, knobs, mirrors, squeakers, spinners, lights, balls, etc.
My son heads straight for the toy as soon as he sees it. He uses it in many different ways- he likes to bang the plastic balls together, turn the music on and off with the spinning level, play with the beads, flip the toy over and inspect the inner workings, and also use it as a prop to stand with. It is versitale enough that he seems to continue to find new ways to play with it as he gets older.
For a younger baby the toy can be mounted to a crib and used as a soother, we did not purchase it until he was 5 months old so we never used it this way. It would be a really good buy for parents of a new baby, would definitley get quite a bit of use out of it over the years.
My only concerns have been that he likes to reach in and "stop" the disks while they are spinning and I am worried that might burn out the motor but so far no signs at all of this happening.
